The remaining employees of the City are not elected. One group consists of those who are appointed to their jobs. The most important of these is the Safety-Service Director. This person serves as a statutory city's version of a City Manager. An Administrative Assistant works directly for the Safety-Service Director. Also in this category is the Clerk of Mayor's Court. These three positions are all filled by Mayoral appointments. The Law Director, Auditor, and Treasurer also appoint their own assistants. City Council appoints its own Clerk. Obviously, these jobs are not protected by Civil Service and continue only as long as the political climate of the City permits.
